ENVIRONMENT AGENCY LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

This SITE VISIT meeting comprises 3 elements, these are:

 

  1. A Presentation involving a Legislative Update from Cormac Meenehan, Fisheries, Recreation and Biodiversity Officer, on the responsibilities of the Environment Agency regarding Water Quality; Salmonids & Fishery Management.
  2. A Site Visit to a modern, successful and popular Rainbow Trout Fly Fishery.
  3. An Opportunity to ‘Have a Go’ at one of the most popular recreational activities in the UK- Fly Fishing for Trout.

The Programme for this special event is as follows:

Noon Sharp: Meeting Opens; Short Business Session- Don Johnston, Chair, SEEMG

12:05 PM : Water Framework Directive- Water Quality & what the EA is trying to achieve; Salmon & Freshwater Fisheries Act- legislative Authority to assist the EA to protect the stocks of Salmonids; General Fishery Management- how the EA tries to protect water quality and fish stocks in River & Still Water Fisheries, involving both Coarse & Game fish species.

This meeting promises to be interesting, exciting and entertaining and offers our members a greater understanding of the roles of the Environment Agency, and broader comprehension of biodiversity and sustainability. It is therefore likely to prove very popular but has to be limited to the first 20 members to confirm attendance because of the size of the Conference Room & availability of Fly Fishing Equipment which will be provided by Meon Springs Fly Fishery. Please take boots and appropriate outdoor clothing.
